Brighton & Hove Albion welcome West Ham United to the south coast in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Seagulls are aiming to secure a first victory in any competition since the beginning of March and their five-game winless Premier League run has seen them crash down the table. Once boasting an outside shot of Champions League qualification, Brighton are now tenth with nothing to play for but pride in the remaining weeks of the campaign.
West Ham are in similarly uninspiring form as they continue to struggle under Graham Potter. Drawing 1-1 at home to already relegated Southampton was not a good look as Lesley Ugochukwu’s stoppage-time equaliser extended their winless run to six matches. While they are in no danger of relegation, they can officially secure their Premier League status for another term should they avoid defeat at the Amex Stadium – relegating Ipswich Town in the process.

Brighton’s unforgiving injury list has been one of the factors in their recent slump, with notable defensive absentees leaving Fabian Hurzeler’s side exposed at the back. The good news is that Jan Paul van Hecke, Joel Veltman, Tariq Lamptey and Igor could all return in some capacity this weekend, although Adam Webster, Ferdi Kadioglu and James Milner are all missing.
Georginio Rutter’s absence has been felt following the ankle injury he sustained at the start of the month and Hurzeler’s attacking options are further limited by Joao Pedro’s suspension. The Brazilian was sent off for violent conduct during the 4-2 defeat at Brentford last weekend and will now miss the next three games.

West Ham’s injury list is significantly kinder than Brighton’s but they are still without key personnel. Michail Antonio and Crysencio Summerville are long-term absentees, while Edson Alvarez missed last weekend’s clash with Southampton due to a back injury.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka was also absent against the Saints but should return to the fray on Saturday, likely coming straight back into the starting lineup. He won’t be joined by Evan Ferguson, however, with the Ireland international ineligible to face his parent club.

Brighton have looked a shadow of themselves in recent weeks and their injury-hit defence has been particularly underwhelming. They have conceded two or more in their last four outings and even their impressive firepower at the other end of the pitch has been unable to save them.
However, West Ham boast one of the tamest attacks in the division across recent months, despite their abundance of talent in the final third. They haven’t scored more than two goals in a game since mid-January and have often been unable to surpass a single strike.
These two out-of-form sides could produce anything in a battle of little consequence but Brighton’s home advantage and attacking quality could be the difference between the pair.
