Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve referral bonuses

Chase just made it more lucrative to refer your friends to the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees) and the Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees). If you’re an existing Chase Sapphire Preferred Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder, you can earn 10,000 bonus points for every accepted applicant — up to 100,000 points total from referral bonuses in a calendar year. (Previously, you could earn 15,000 points per referral, but the total points limit was set at 75,000 points.) Thanks to Upgraded Points for first breaking the news. Those points are worth $205 per approved applicant, based on TPG’s April 2025 valuations.

Chase has streamlined the referral process, now offering a consolidated page on both its website and its mobile app that allows you to generate referral links for all eligible Chase credit cards in one place. All you need to do is follow this link and log in to start creating referral links. If you hold more than one Chase credit card, simply go to the drop-down list on the top left and select which card you’d like to generate a referral for.

As of this story’s publication, new cardholders of the Chase Sapphire Preferred can earn 100,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. Meanwhile, those who apply for the Chase Sapphire Reserve can earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. These welcome bonuses are worth $2,050 for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and $1,230 for the Chase Sapphire Reserve, respectively, according to TPG’s April 2025 valuations.

Beyond the welcome bonus, there is incredible long-term value in having either of these cards.

The $95-per-year Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is one of the best — if not the best — travel rewards cards for beginners and experts alike, offering bonus points on broadly defined categories like travel and dining to help you book your next free trip faster. As for the more premium Chase Sapphire Reserve, it provides more travel-related perks, including a flexible $300 travel credit, a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck fee credit and Priority Pass lounge access.

With generous earning rates and the ability to redeem some of the most valuable points around, these cards can be keepers for the long haul. If you think one of them would be a good fit for your friends and family, be sure to send them your referral link to nab up to 100,000 extra Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

Bottom line

Chase has reduced the amount of points you can earn per individual Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve referral to 10,000 points instead of 15,000 points. However, with this change, the issuer has also increased the limit on how many points you can earn annually through referrals to 100,000 points — up from 75,000 points. This means that if you’re able to meet this threshold, you can earn an additional 25,000 points through referrals each year.
